OUR STORY

Faros Navi is a family-owned local business dedicated to continuing, preserving and celebrating the rich maritime heritage of Stari Grad. Our pride and joy is “Helios,” a historic boat that embodies the town’s legacy. By restoring Helios, we keep alive a 68-year old and vital piece of cultural history, creating unforgettable experiences for visitors and locals.

We provide safe, simple, and reliable transport by sea, the way it has been done locally for generations. We are not a large company, and we do not operate like one. Every ride is personal. You will see the same boat, the same people, and the same level of care, whether you are a local heading to the ferry or a visitor arriving to explore Stari Grad.

Our boat, Helios, was built in 1958 in Crikvenica by Josip Ivančić “Cene”, one of the most respected wooden boat builders on the northern Adriatic coast. Over his lifetime, Ivančić built dozens of wooden vessels known for their strength, balance, and seaworthiness. His legacy is still honored today through an annual award bearing his name, given to the most beautifully preserved traditional wooden boat in the region.

Helios has been part of everyday life in Stari Grad for decades. He carried locals, workers, families, and guests long before modern boats became common. After many years of service, the boat was carefully restored, not to become something new, but to remain what she has always been: a simple, honest working boat.

This business was not created from a business plan, but from personal attachment and responsibility toward local maritime heritage. Helios holds memories of childhood rides, familiar routes, and a slower rhythm of life that still matters here.

Our goal is straightforward: to keep a traditional boat active, to offer an affordable and practical service for locals and visitors, and to preserve a small but real part of Stari Grad’s maritime identity. We do not aim for mass tourism. We aim for continuity.

Faros Navi exists so that Helios can continue doing what she has done for more than half a century: quietly connecting people, places, and everyday life by sea.
